I&E Days 2012 – A few of our favorite things.

Though it has been a few months since I&E Days, the Center team thought it would be fun to share some of our favorite things about this year’s event. Check out our thoughts below and see photos from the event here. What were some of your favorite things about the event?

My favorite part of I&E Days was seeing the photos of legislators and staffers holding up their numbers. When the I&E planning workgroup was talking about this idea, there was a little part of my brain that worried about whether legislators and staffers would actually agree to do this. I loved the idea, don’t get me wrong…. but legislators and staffers sharing something so personal? And writing it on a big blank piece of paper? For a photo? Not so sure. So there was nothing more exciting than having people come back from meetings all afternoon long with amazing stories and photos from their meeting. And it wasn’t just because our idea worked. But because each photo was a real reminder of our message – “Everyone has a number.” And a real reminder about how extremely vital our work is. I left I&E Days inspired.

When we were talking about doing a post about our favorite things about our 2012 I&E Days I immediately knew what I would write about – our new team members! After Justin left, Vanessa and I had been working nonstop on I&E Days (among other things) so when Julissa and Lindsey came on board, it was like a huge weight had been lifted from our shoulders. And on top of that, they were FABULOUS. I absolutely loved watching them work with our workgroup members and meet all of our wonderful Prop 99 team. Not to mention they helped breathe new life into the event. They offered new ideas and perspectives that really helped the event come together. I hope all of our colleagues in the Prop 99 world had a chance to meet them!

As a new person, experiencing I&E Days for the first time, I was so excited to see what it was all about. My favorite part was definitely getting to interact with everyone that was there. It was my first or second time meeting the Prop 99 team, and I have to say they are some really awesome people. Seeing how excited they were to educate their legislators about tobacco control issues at the state and local level further inspired and excited me for what is to come in my new position! The positive message that was spread that day will have a lasting effecting on everyone involved.

My favorite part of I&E Days was the opportunity to meet everyone (well almost everyone) in the Prop 99 team. The amazing work that each one of you is doing in your community is impressive. You are truly leading the way in the tobacco control movement. As a new staff person to the tobacco control movement, your work is an inspiration to other health fields constantly pushing the envelope in new and creative ways. I’m amazed by your conviction to motivate and inspire others. I am very much looking forward to working with all of you!
