TALC Does It Again!

I just got off of a TALC webinar about their new CALIFORNIA MODEL ORDINANCE REGULATING SMOKING IN MULTI-UNIT RESIDENCES

Wow!

We’ve come a long way in the smoke free housing movement.  Back in 2005 when TALC’s first “sample” ordinance came out, we had no ordinances in the state.  Now there are a variety of ordinances affecting units, nuisance, disclosure, balconies, outdoor common areas and so on.  The toughness of the new Model Ordinance reflects a new self-confidence that many activists feel about targeting units for smoking restrictions.

Yes, many people continue to be aghast that we would tell a smoker not to smoke in their apartment, but we have advanced our own understanding so much in the last four years that we are not intimidated

We know there is no constitutional right to smoke.

We have scientific evidence of how smoke penetrates and drifts.

We know even more about what SHS does to our bodies.

But most of all, we know we can pass these new laws, and were busy doing it.

Congratulations TALC!!
